Walter Leslie
Wilkins Sr.
May 19, 2025
WALTER LESLIE WILKINS SR.
Walter Leslie Wilkins Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and teacher, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025, at the age of 65. Born on June 11, 1959, in Monck's Corner, South Carolina, he lived a wondrous life abundant with love, excitement, achievement, faith, generosity, and kindness.
At his core, he was a man of generosity, love, compassion, a deep pursuit of knowledge, and a giver of wisdom. For his family and friends, his heart knew no bounds. He loved unconditionally whether in moments of joy, recent heartbreak, or when offering guidance. He always had an open ear, a steady shoulder, and a compassionate word.
A man of many passions, the one that stood above the rest was teaching. He began shaping young minds at LISD and later shared his knowledge of technology with fellow educators, helping them better understand an ever-changing world. After retirement, his passion for teaching endured by tutoring students across the country and even a few around the world.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Leslie Lee and Elizabeth Jerusha Wilkins, and his brother, John Scott Wilkins. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Margarita; his children, Walter Jr. (Rosa E.) and Phillip Alexander (Jeannie), and his pride and joy grandson, Jury Alexander Wilkins; his brother, William H. (Missy) Wilkins; his niece and nephews, Debra, William, and Spencer; and his cherished friend, Carmen Alicia Pena. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In accordance with his wishes, no formal service will be held.
His lessons were not confined to the classroom; they lived in his actions, his words, and his example. His legacy endures not only through his family but also in the countless lives and minds he shaped.
In his memory, we leave you with one of his favorite phrases while teaching:
"The only dumb question is the one you don't ask."
