Obituary

WILLIAM BYRON JOHNSON, III

Bill was born on April 20, 1946 and went to be with his Heavenly Father on October 23, 2021, at the age of 75 years.
Bill was a life-long resident of Laredo, Texas tracing his roots to the Founders of Laredo.
Bill was a graduate of St. Joseph's High School and a proud Texas Aggie graduate in the Class of 1968!
Bill had a heart of gold and believed in giving back to his community never expecting any praise or acknowledgement. He invested his time and resources in the youth of Laredo through education or sports. Teaching banking classes at Laredo Community College, or Junior Achievement at United High School. He served on the Board of Directors of the United Independent School District for 16 years during which time the district grew significantly. His leadership was key to managing that growth. Upon retiring from the UISD School Board, he was honored by having the Student Activity Complex named in his honor.
Bill was honored in 2009 by  the LULAC with the Tejano Achiever Award.
Bill was a past member of the Laredo Daybreak Rotary Club. He was a longtime member of the Border Olympics and served President.
Bill coached baseball at all levels for many years. In fact, he took one team to the World Series. When he was not coaching, he was working behind the scenes with the Little League and Pony Leagues.
The man was filled with compassion and love. He was slow to anger which was challenged by his wife and sons daily.
BILL WAS A GENTLEMAN'S GENTLEMAN!!!
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Murdie Johnson and sister Mary Ann Reuter.
Bill is survived by his wife, Judy and their sons: Todd (Amy) Freedman, Jason Freedman and Aron Freedman, grandchildren Weston, Riley and Paxton Freedman. His brothers John (Suzy) Johnson, Paul (Catherine) Johnson, Brother-in-Law Jerry Reuter, Cousin Melissa Campbell, and nieces and nephews. This includes the thousands of Laredo youngsters whose lives he touched.
Borrowing a quote from a friend, "Bill you have passed first, you have taken second, rounded third and you are home safely."
YOU WILL BE GREATLY MISSED BY SO MANY OF YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY
